First introduced in the Sustainable Development Report 2019, Net Positive is our approach to building a sustainable business that has a positive impact on the planet, society, and the economy.

We’re doing that through four pillars of action:

  • Positive Supply
  • Positive Operations
  • Positive Product
  • Positive Society

In this report, we share the story of Quorn Foods a company born out of deep concern over food shortages in the 1960s, manifesting itself in the 1980’s as a business helping the minority of people who didn’t want to eat meat, and today on a mission to help everyone eat less meat. You will see our Net Positive Ambition in practice, how every single member of the Quorn family is encouraged to take action on one of our 11 Net Positive goals, and collectively, we have brought together many achievements detailed in this report.

We are proud that the emissions from our own operations were reduced by 84% between 2012 and 2023, with the increasing use of renewable energy. At the same time, we know there is still much to do to reach net zero. That is why we have proactively collaborated with researcher partners and our suppliers to explore routes to decarbonisation, improve resource efficiency and experiment with circularity.

Employees are the key to success for all businesses. At Quorn Foods, we create an environment where all colleagues can lead working groups on the topics of their interest. We have organised events and webinars to showcase to our workforce the importance of healthy eating, physical and mental health. We will continue providing training on Net Positive principles to ensure all our colleagues can practice them inside and outside of work.

Healthy, tasty food is at the heart of all product development at Quorn Foods. In 2023, we launched global nutrition profiles for our products, setting category specific limits for calories, total fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt, in line with government reformulation targets. As the original pioneer in growing mycoprotein, we have always been committed to supporting researchers to study the health benefits of our unique protein.

We understand plastic remains a focus for our consumers, and our Packaging team has been working hard to eliminate unnecessary plastic. Between 2021 and 2023, we avoided 44 tonnes of plastic through replacing plastic with cardboard and reducing packaging weight where possible. Nearly 90% of our consumer facing packaging is now recyclable.

The journey to be a Net Positive business requires tremendous support from our suppliers. In April 2024, we published our new Supplier Code of Conduct and started to engage our supply partners with the framework that will underpin all our supply relationships moving forward. Thanks to the long-standing relationships with our supplier base, we could calculate our Scope 3 emissions baseline of the year 2022 with high data quality, where 79% data was from activity evaluation and 21% spend data.

We have also developed initiatives to fight food insecurity, make food shopping more inclusive to people with visual impairment, and empower the next generation act as sustainable food systems champions. All these stories can be found in the Quorn Foods Net Positive Report 2024.
